Excursions

Wednesday June 3rd there will be a possibility to join one of these excursions:

  • Sportive excursion: Cycling in the area around Egmond aan Zee. Price: 20,- euro

  • Touristic excursion: Visit de Zaanse Schans and Alkmaar. Price: 50,- euro

  • Scientific excursion: Visit ENZA Zaden and Enkhuizen. Price: 30,- euro

    Description of the excursions:

    Sportive excursion:

    Discover the scenic routes of Egmond aan Zee on a rental bike along the North Sea coast. The app-supported cycling routes offer something for every difficulty level. Routes can be selected based on different points of interest, incl. panoramic lookout spots and cultural highlights. During this tour you will discover some surprising connections of nematodes to this region.The tour includes entrance to the Egmond aan Zee Museum, where you can take a break and dive into the rich maritime and local history of the region.

    Touristic excursion:

    Enjoy a scenic journey by bus to the Zaanse Schans, one of the Netherlands’ most iconic heritage sites. Upon arrival, an English-speaking guide will lead a 1.5-hour tour inside a historic windmill and uncover the secrets of traditional Dutch craftsmanship—from the intricate art of sailcloth weaving to the time-honoured process of cheese making. Also explore the typical charming green wooden houses that define this historic village. After the guided tour, you’ll have free time to explore on your own.

    After the excursion you will be transferred to the old city center of Alkmaar with (among other things) 399 national historic heritage sites. You will be on your own to explore the city center and to have dinner (at own expense). The bus will depart from Alkmaar in the evening, with an estimated arrival time in Egmond aan Zee around 22:00.  

    Scientific excursion:

    Excursions will be organised to Bejo Zaden (https://www.bejo.com/) and to Dekker Chrysanten (https://dekkerchrysanten.com/). Bejo Zaden is active in breeding and production of high-quality vegetable seeds with a portfolio covering approximately 40 crops, Bejo Zaden offers a complete range for all markets and diverse climates. Their seeds reach more than 100 countries. Dekker Chrysanten one of the largest breeders and propagators of chrysanthemums worldwide with offices Colombia, Kenya and Vietnam. With their our own laboratories and test locations, Dekker Chrysanten has a leading role in the efficient use of energy, water, and nutrition in horticulture. 

    After the excursion you will be transferred to the old city center of Alkmaar with (among other things) 399 national historic heritage sites. Gala dinner

Thursday June 4 there will be a gala dinner with music and dancing. There will be a live band and DJ.

Costs are included in the registration fee.
